A flock of geese - part three-

I don't mind basting a quilt. Sure it isn't the most stimulating of processes when making a quilt but it is a really important one and needs to be done right to have a good time quilting.

So I put on an audio book and get on with it. For my new 'flock of geese' quilt I used for the first time wool batting that I bought by the yard from 'Creative Grid' where I also buy my large cotton batting rolls. The woll wadding has much, much more loft than the cotten batting and I am interestd to see how this behaves during quilting.

But to make sure my quilt sandwitch isn't moving at all during quilting I secured it with over 400 pins. That is even for me a lot. One for each geese block makes 240 and one in each intersection which makes a pin every three inches. One hour later I was done and hopefully find some time and motivation this week in the evenings to get on with quilting.

A double pinwheel quilt in LP&Q issue 19

Love Patchwork and Quilting issue 19 is out and features again an array of stunning quilts and amongst them my latest quilt.

It a made using one of my favourite quilts patterns, the double pinwheel.

 I like to think it is a double pinwheel pattern with a little twist in that I used  gingham to sash it and of a contrasting solid for the inner pinwheel.

This is a fun pattern and the blocks are suitably big so that this quilt is whipped up in no time.

I combined prints and solids from the same colour families.

And added a black/white dotted binding for even more impact. 

The backing fabric, a print from the Kona Modern Quilt collection, was kindly supplied by the wonderful people of the Eternal Maker.

stash Note 55

Happy Sunday everybody. It rained all day yesterday here (literally) and it looks like it is not going to be any different today. Normally that would make me rather furious but I will be spending most of today with the lovely Lucie Summers and members of the LMQG in a screen fabric workshop, so you can imagine I am not angry but rather overexcited like a toddler today. Still will it ever stop raining ?(oh yeah I forgot apparently we have a drought....).

 Today's stash note is a mixed bag of re-stash and new addition. These wonderful circles on linen are the re-stash and were bought from Stefanie Xu via Etsy.

And this utterly gorgeous pile of gingham was bought in Bremen in a shop near where my sisters lives and where I always pop in when I visit her. Sadly though they don't have an on-line facility.
