Shades of neutral low volume cushion

I am working on a new low volume quilt that I already hinted at when I shared with you my finished 'On my travels I' quilt.

I have cut all the squares I require but before I got onto some frantic sewing I thought to get a quick fix by swiftly sewing up a cushion cover. Because you can never have enough cushion covers, wouldn't you agree ?

 And I do love these fabrics and don't seem to be able to get enough of them.

The back of the cushion uses a Kokka newspaper print fabric that I bought a long time ago at the Eternal Maker and that is not available anymore. I fits so well with the colours or shall I say non-colours of the front.

I quilted the cushion front in a crosshatch pattern only a half inch apart in a cream w40 w Aurifil  thread.

Workshops this week

This week I am teaching again at the Village Haberdashery in West Hampstead. And not just one but two workshops.

Starting of on Wednesdays evening is the beginning of my Baby quilt class. I am teaching students the A-Z of making a baby quilt over the course of 3 Wednesday including homework. This workshop is full but Annie and I are planning a second one due to its popularity that is scheduled for the first three weeks of August.

I am so looking forward to this class because it is enormously satisfying to make baby quilts.

We will be starting easy with squares for which charm packs are ideal.
I was thinking something along the lines of this quilt:

The second class I am teaching this coming week is on Saturday and it is again the quilted cushion class that produced such great results the last time around. Check out this post and see what fabulous cushions my students crafted.

For this class places are still up for grabs. So if you know somebody who would like to start quilting then point them in my direction. All I am asking for is a little bit of sewing expertise and that students have used a sewing machine before.

A few weeks ago I announced here on the blog that I would be holding my first sewing class at Annie's Village Haberdashery shop. 

My Quilted and bound cushion' class runs on Saturday the 13th April from 10am  - 4pm and it is the ideal class for students who want to get into quilting but find making an entire quilt a little daunting.

Often people ask me how I got into quilting and how difficult I found it. Although I already had sewing experience before I started quilting I am largely self-taught with a good smattering of internet tuition and help from others. I started small with a baby quilt but that still took a long time so I thought that it would be a nice idea to teach the techniques that are required to make a quilt by way of making a cushion. The great advantage of this is that students will learn almost all skills required for quilting but they will do it on a small project. And the best thing about this workshop is that you will do it all in one session and get to take home your quilted cushion at the end of it.
